In an effort to keep every child in Terry County safe, County Judge Butch Wagner and Brownfield Mayor Tom Hesse announced on Thursday that April is child abuse awareness month. The proclamation read, “encourage all citizens of Terry county to commit to preventing child abuse and supporting efforts. To ensure the safety of every child please report any instances of known child abuse or neglect by immediatly calling 911 or your local law enforcement agency along with the CPS hotline at 1(800)-252-5400 together we can create safe homes and strong families in our communities.”

Voters have until April 21 to complete a short online survey, where they will be able to choose between three images proposed for the Greater Roadrunner license plate. Survey results will help the agency decide which of three photographic designs should be featured on the new specialty plate.

Terry County Commissioner’s Court met Monday morning to hear a presentation from Resound, a company that builds out internet in rural areas. “We’re asking for right around $800,000 from the county, and what this would allow us to do would be to build the three towers, install the new torana gear, and upgrade Brownfield and Meadows,” said a spokesperson from the company. “$800,000 is about three road graders, so I don’t know,” replied Terry County Judge Wagner. Recently, the FCC awarded the company Resound “just a little over $310 million to build out internet.” The award was a part of rural digital opportunity fund(RDOF). The company representatives explained the goal is to get broadband internet to individuals who live outside of city limits, in more rural areas. Judge Wagner then asked, “have y’all polled Wellman to how many people might need?” Resound said that they did not have an exact number but that Wellman was part of the 850 they had identified as being underserved, “and so we believe most there to be underserved today.”

Brownfield Power and Light received its 33 year No Loss Time Award on Tuesday. That means Brownfield Power and Light has gone 33 years with no injuries that resulted in lost time. Brownfield comes in second in the state to Fredericksburg which has 34 years of no lost time. Cat Gonzalez, the Brownfield Power and Light lead said, “I am very proud of our crew for the hard work and dedication to stay safe while working in all conditions. We keep each other safe by working as a team.” The names of those pictured and members of the Brownfield Power and Light crew are as follows: Devry Rosenquist TEC Loss Control Specialist, Cat Gonzales, Tad Jourden, Jonathan Olivas, Alex Llamas, Brant Quintanilla, Cody Jenkins, Paul Aguirre, and Dale Matlock(not pictured).

Only One Injury: A wreck happened at the intersection of Tahoka Road and Ballard, right in front of Nelson’s pharmacy. The wreck occurred at about 11am on Tuesday. Both drivers were issued citations for the wreck, and one woman was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Tahoka street was closed for approximately one hour, before the wrecked vehicle was cleared away. The other vehicle was able to pull into Nelson’s Pharmacy parking lot in order to not obstruct traffic.
