On Sunday, March 15 the Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath told a group of legislators and public school officials that, “likely looking at large numbers of kids possibly missing the rest of the school year.” Also according to the Houston Chronicle, Morath added “it’s marginally optimistic to believe already-shuttered schools in areas with an outbreak will re-open within the next eight weeks.” If that is the case, that would bring those school districts being shut down until the middle of May, or two to three weeks before the original date for summer break.
