A Celebration of Life for Lewanna Louise “Tissie” Smith will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 2, 2023. Tissie aka “Aunt Tissie” or “Granny” was born on January 27, 1926, in Meadow, Texas. She was the eighth of ten children born to George and Edna Henson. Tissie learned at an early age how to bring the fun and entertain a crowd. She also learned how to cook, sew, and stir up trouble on the family farm in Terry County. She was a hard worker and smart as a whip. She worked with her brother’s wife Rosie the summer before her senior year. The job ended in October, so she then returned to school and graduated with flying colors from Meadow high school in 1941.

Gem Brady Childress, beloved husband, father and “Grandad,” passed away at the age of 79 on June 29, 2023, in Sugar Land, TX, after courageously battling Alzheimer’s disease. Gem was born in Lubbock, TX, on October 29, 1943, to Oleta and Brady James “Skeet” Childress. Gem is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy (Timmons) Childress, and his sons Trent Childress (and Jennifer) of Georgetown, and Kirk Childress (and Kelly) of Sugar Land. He took great pleasure in his four grandsons: Brady (and Reagan) Childress, Luke Childress, Wyatt Childress, and Will Childress.

Born in Spur, TX on July 31, 1960, to Plutarco and Felicitas Martinez, Nicolasa lived a full life with many accomplishments and touched the lives of those she met.

Private graveside services for Lloyd Caton Tyson, 87, are set for June 24 in Morton Memorial Cemetery at Morton, Texas, with Joey Pierce, of Levelland, Texas officiating. An open memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Morton Church of Christ, 701 E. Taylor.
