After a loss the last time out the Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs looked to get back to their winning ways Friday night against Lamesa and they did just that with their 61-57 win over the Golden Tornadoes. Brownfield was once again shorthanded on Friday night as they were without the services of Quavience Busby, Trae Timmins, and Brason Salas. Kaden McPherson did make his return to action but saw limited minutes in his first game back. After one quarter of play it was Lamesa who saw themselves with a 12-11 lead due to a slow start for the Runnin’Cubs. A jolt of offense in the second quarter helped Brownfield take a 28-20 lead into the locker room. Coming out of the break Brownfield maintained their lead but Lamesa wasn’t going down easy as it was 45-40 going into the final frame of play. The fourth quarter was an intense one for both sides as Lamesa continued to scratch and claw their way to stay in the game and keep Brownfield on their toes but ultimately their comeback was spoiled as Brownfield won the game 61-57. Jeron Lawrence notched another double-double on the season with 25 points and 16 rebounds which is a career high for himself. George Rivera finished with 9 points, while KJ Carroll, and JoJo Carrillo both chipped in with 8 points themselves.
