It’s going to be a long year for motorists, as gas prices set a new record at the pump today, rising above the previous all-time high of $4.35 per gallon nationally set on March 10. That’s according to the latest report from the national watchdog site, GasBuddy. In the Terry County area prices topped $3.99. But the Brownfield News spoke to a couple who traveled from out of town to visit Brownfield wineries. The husband and wife told the news, “you can’t just wait for things to get better or you’ll never do anything.” The TWO were ultimately unconcerned and unbothered with the gas prices. The man said he drives a diesel truck and that his gas bill is easily over 700 dollars a month. He added he only lives ten minutes from his day job, and despite his outrageous gas bill he still travels all over the state. The couple embodied a capable, live now while you can attitude. The couple says it was not willing to let high gas prices hold them back from experiencing the world and living their lives.

Our Promise Youth Academy is offering fun summer programs for kids. It’s “just to have fun,” explained Program Director Johnny Trevino. He further explained that at Our Promise Youth Academy the staff encourage the kids to be themselves and interact with each other. “I had one parent tell me, he’s way different now he has more friends and he’s enjoying it more, and he’s more talkative.” Johnny Trevino says that his strategy is to “try to think like a kid.” “Especially with this job you have to be a kid yourself.” He pays attention to the trendy things that exist in kids’ lives, “especially with video games.” The facility has a Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch for the kids to play, and the staff listens and engages with the kids to learn which new games they want to play the most. Beyond video games they have the kids play sports, and do crafts that Johnny Trevino sources crafts from browsing Pinterest, and “as of right now we’re going to try to go to the pool every week.”
