This event is a Brownfield tradition, this will be the 51st year WTRC will hold the Independence Day event in Brownfield. The Firecracker Run began as a way to keep Brownfield ISD’s athletes in shape throughout the summer. As always, WTRC likes to encourage young and old, girls and boys, men and women to get in shape so everyone can live a happier and longer life. The main emphasis of the race will be on having family and friends get together for an enjoyable start to one of America’s favorite holidays, the birth of our nation.

Read moreAbout 340 vehicles and hundreds of people waited in line early Saturday morning, June 27 to receive food from the South Plains Food Bank. Lubbock Catholic Charities along with STAR Case Manager Rebecca Valenzuela helped host a “Pop-up food pantry” in Brownfield at Coleman park. Valenzuela noted that all they needed was 30 volunteers, but there were over 50 volunteers that took on the task. Valenzuela said when she was asked what was needed, “I told them that the community needs food.” South Plains Food Bank provided fresh produce, cheese boxes amongst other foods to all families; with no requirements to qualify for the assistance. Gandy’s called the food bank and asked to be involved with this pop-up distribution as well. Gandy’s brought volunteers of their own and distributed milk to the first 300 clients of the morning.
