It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Freida Gayle Riley, who left us at the age of 71, on April 8, 2025. Born on March 7, 1954, in Brownfield, Freida was a devoted wife, mother, and Granny. Always full of joy and with a contagious laugh, she had a unique ability to bring light to every room she entered. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone she met, and she was loved dearly by all who knew her. Freida’s love for her family was unwavering. She was a loving wife to her husband, John, for 52 years, and cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Freida took great joy in watching her family grow and thrive, and she always made sure that her home was a place of love and laughter.

Matthew Darrell Barron saddled up and rode home to the “big ranch” on March 30, 2025, where “never is heard a discouraging word, and the skies are not cloudy all day.” There, the dust never blows, the cattle are always fat, and the windmill never runs dry. He was welcomed by his beautiful bride, Bonnie Sue Mitchell Barron, waiting for him at the gate, a basket of freshly shelled peas in her lap and a smile that could light up the whole prairie. Darrell was bom in Lamesa, on February 25, 1943, to Tom and Marguerite Knox Barron. On Christmas Eve of 1960, he married Sue, kicking off a lifetime of love, laughter, and a whole lot of hard work. Together, they built a life in Plains, raising two children while Darrell worked from sunup to sundown, walking fence lines, tending cattle, and coaxing life from the dry Texas soil. His hands were worn, his back strong, and his spirit even stronger.

Diane G. Mitchell, 87, passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 10, 2025 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 1, 1937 in Vernon; the daughter of Howard Cermit and Ola Kate (Rains) Green. Diane graduated from Levelland High School, class of 1955 and began her career in the banking industry with the First National Bank of Levelland. She married James Edwin Mitchell on April 18, 1957. The family relocated to _______________________________________________ ure with the First National Bank retiring in 1998 after 31 years in the industry. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, National Association of Banking Women, and The Red Skirts.
