The Brownfield baseball team hosted district rival Lamesa in summer league action on Tuesday, June 15. The Cubs and the Golden Tornadoes played for an hour and forty five minutes or seven innings, which ever came first. The Cubs came back to win 4-3 on a walk off single in the fifth inning.

The fans who attended the game enjoyed an entertaining boys’ and girls’ game. The games were played with two 20 minutes halves with a running clock that only stopped when the players shot free throws.
Read moreBrownfield Superintendent Chris Smith spoke earlier in the year about Brownfield hosting a basketball tournament at the new high school, which will have six gyms. The idea was to have a large size tournament from Thursday, December 2 until Saturday, December 4 for the varsity boys and girls basketball teams. The hope was this would become a yearly event and would grow each year into possibly becoming one of the top tournaments in the state.

The event had winners in three meat categories of chicken, ribs, and brisket, a beans champion, a kids cook champion, and one Grand Champion. With the cook-off return, Justin Hess of the Knights of Columbus spoke to the Brownfield News about the event.
Read moreLady Cubs hold volleyball camp-------Brownfield volleyball held its three day camp for girls who wanted to learn the basics of volleyball. Lady Cubs head coach Mallorie Ellis hosted the camp working with girls from all ages, teaching them the basics such as setting, passing, and serving. She was accompanied by her assistant coach and players, such as Tia and Deja Johnson who helped work with the 12 girls who signed up and were eager to learn.

The kids were taught by Brownfield baseball head coach Eric Morin and assistant coach Woods.

Originally, Jason Pearson had planned to start this annual event last year but unfortunately, COVID changed those plans, making this the first-ever 806HSSC sponsored All-Star game. Pearson was determined to have his All-Star game this year and explained why he wanted to host one.
