DIMMITT – The Brownfield softball team traveled to Dimmitt on Friday, April 23 to finish District 3-3A and prepare for the first round of Class 3A playoffs. The Lady Cubs went into the game knowing they had already clinched the playoffs as the second seed in the district, and will face Tornillo at Pecos on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Class 3A Regional track and field meet was held Friday, April 23 at Abilene, and Brownfield had two runners reach state. The Regional round was held in Abilene with Nathaniel Luna and Ruth Lozano both qualifying for the state meet.

The Brownfield baseball team traveled to Kermit on Friday, April 23 for a nondistrict game against Kermit. The game was a chance for the Cubs to measure themselves against potential first round playoff opponent Tornillo, who defeated Kermit 7-5 earlier in the season. The Cubs defeated Kermit 22-11, behind a strong first and third inning.

LAMESA – The Brownfield softball team made a short trip to play the undefeated Lady Tornadoes in Lamesa. The last time these two teams faced off the Lady Cubs lost 9-5 at home and knew a win would give them a share of the District 3-3A championship, but a loss would hand Lamesa the outright title. After seven innings the Lady Cubs lost to Lamesa 8-1 and watched the Lady Tornadoes celebrate on their home field and with their fans.

LAMESA – After defeating Muleshoe and securing fourth place in district and a spot in the playoffs, the Brownfield baseball team traveled to Lamesa looking for its first winning streak in district and a chance to climb up in the standing. The last time the Cubs and Tornadoes played, the Cubs forced extra innings with a 10 run seventh inning.

Freshman Lotan Jimenez made one at-bat appearance in Brownfield baseball’s 14-3 win over Muleshoe. He hit the ball to right field bringing in the two runners on second and first, thus ending the game on the University Interscholastic League 10-run rule. The walk-off also snapped the Cubs’ three-game losing streak in District 3-3A.
