On Tuesday, Oct. 6 the Brownfield tennis team welcomed Snyder to Cubs’ tennis court for a duel. At the end of the duel, the Lady Cubs and Cubs fell to the Lady Tigers and Tigers 13-6. With the loss Brownfield falls to 7-5 on the season.

Read moreAfter a District shootout in Meadow Friday night, the Wellman-Union Wildcats emerged victorious. The Wildcats took the 64-52 win over the home town Meadow Broncos. The Wildcats were first to score in the game, going up by 16 at the end of the first quarter. The Broncos, after a scoreless first quarter, were able to begin their attack early in the second. The Broncos came away with 8 points after a quick second quarter score but had a tough time defensively, in containing the Wildcats. Wellman Union’s Carson Sessums was quick to answer back with a score of his own, adding to the Wildcat lead. The Wildcats continued to hack away at the Bronco defense. The score being 42-16 at the end of the first half, with Meadow’s Caleb Sanchez putting up the Broncos second score of the first half. After halftime, the Broncos returned to the field with a new found momentum. Things began to click offensively for the Broncos, as they continued to put points on the board in the third and forth quarters. Unfortunately for the Broncos, despite their attack, the Wildcats continued to have their way with the Broncos defense. The Broncos outscored the Wildcats 36-22 in the final two quarters but the damage from the previous two had already been done. The Wildcats took the District win and are now 1-0. The Wildcats will host Whiteface at home next Friday. The Meadow Broncos who are now 0-1 in District will look to host Borden County in Meadow next Friday.

He had 13 carries for 278 rushing yards and 5 TDS. On the defensive end, the junior finished with nine tackles with three for loss, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble.

The Lady Cubs looked to do the same when they got onto their home court Tuesday night. After a very slow start in the first set, the Lady Cubs improved to 15-2 on the season and 4-1 in district play, with another sweep of the Squaws 25-23, 25-10, 25-9.

The Wildcats were riding a 10 game losing streak dating back to the 2019-20 season when their last win came in a 49-33 win over Sands on the road. The Wildcats were able to replicate that Friday night on Sept. 27, 2019 against Loop with a 68-45 road win.

The Cubs were easily defeated 57-6 in front of their home fans, but look to make amends with their second district game of the season. Brownfield faces Kermit on the road Friday, in a battle of two winless teams. When the final whistle blows one of the teams will have its first win of the season, and Brownfield will look to be the winner.

The Broncos at 0-5 will be looking for their first win of the season against the 1-5 Wellman-Union Wildcats. This Friday’s game between the two cross county rival teams will mark the start of the District season for both the Broncos and the Wildcats. Friday night will also be host to Homecoming activities for Meadow. When asked how Homecoming affects his players, Broncos’ Head Coach Josh Conner told the Brownfield News that Homecoming brings both distractions and excitement to his players. He’s told them to go out and enjoy themselves but not to lose focus. Coach Conner also mentioned that he and his team will be making some adjustments this week both on offense and defense. “We’ve been practicing some things that we haven’t actually shown yet, so we are looking forward to that this week,” Conner said. As for their opponents this week, the Wellman-Union Wildcats, Coach Conner said he told his guys they have to tackle better. “We have to contain,” Conner said. “The Wildcats have a strong run game and we have to be ready for that, we can’t give up.” Kickoff for Friday night’s game is set for 7:30 at Bronco field in Meadow.
