2024 South Plains UWCD Water Conservation Calendars Available

Brownfield, Texas (December 20,2023)- Come and Get it! The 2024 South Plains Underground Water Conservation District calendars are available and ready to be picked up. Each year as part of the Southern Ogallala Conservation and Outreach Program (SOCOP), the South Plains UWCD conducts a calendar artwork contest open to all Terry County fourth and fifth graders. Students from Brownfield, Meadow, and Wellman-Union were all able to participate in the contest with exceptional entries from all campuses. Winners were recognized at the end of the school year in May 2023 and received their winning prize money as well as a certificate of achievement. The calendar features original student artwork promoting the importance of conserving water. Ivan Gurrea of Brownfield ISD’s Oak Grove Elementary, a 5th grader in Spring 2023, designed the 2024 cover entitled 'Catch’n Water'. This year’s cover artwork is especially appropriate as SPUWCD works diligently to promote rainwater harvesting each May during their annual Rainwater Harvesting Awareness Week. Additionally, twelve other winners, representing all three Terry County school districts, were awarded, and are featured on the monthly pages of the calendar. To obtain your FREE 2024 SPUWCD calendar, come by the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District office located at 802 Tahoka Road in Brownfield. You may also email savegroundwater@ gmail.com or call (806)637-7467 to request your calendar or obtain information about other programs available through the Education and Outreach Cooperative program.

Cheezy delight

If you want extra cheese on your pizza just ask Chefs Benoît Bruel and Fabien Montellanico. You might recall that Chef Bruel set the Guinness record for the greatest variety of pizza pie cheeses in 2020 when he baked a pie adorned with 254 different cheeses but lost it when a rival baker produced a pie with 834 varieties of cheese. Not to be undone, Bruel got back the record recently when he joined with Chef Montellanico to produce a pizza festooned with no less than a thousand and one varieties of cheeses.
