Jesus Elias passed away from this life on December 25, 2021 in Chihuahua, Mexico. He was born on June 28, 1954 to Rodolfo Salgado Rios and Juana Piñon de Salgado in Pachera, Chihuahua, Mexico. He lived and worked in both Hockley and Terry County for 45 years before his passing. He precedes his parents in death. He is survived by his daughter Leslie and two grandchildren, Mariah and James; three brothers, Alberto Salgado and wife Maria Socorro; Rodolfo Salgado Jr., and Monse Salgado; and several nieces and nephews. He was laid to rest in Buena Vista, Chihuahua, Mexico on December 27, 2021. A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Brownfield, TX on January 22, 2022 at 10:00 am. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, to please make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his name. The Lady Cubs played their home game at Lubbock Christian due to a power outage at Brownfield Middle School that effects their home court, but the change in venue did not slow down the Lady Cubs. The 98 points matches the most they have scored this season. The Lady Cubs finished with five players scoring in double figure led by Gabi Fields with 25 points, Deja Johnson with 21, Brianne Franco with 13, Dabria Blackwell and Tia Johnson with 10 points each. The Lady Cubs go into their bye week but face Lubbock Christian Lady Eagles on Tuesday in a non-district game with topoff at 8 p.m. They return to district action on Friday when they travel to Muleshoe. Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m.

The Cubs were active on the boards all night in grabbing 25 offensive boards in helping them get their offense going in the win. Devin Hines led the Cubs with 25 points and grabbed 7 boards with 4 on the offensive end. Jeremiah Tealer had 20 points with 3 offensive boards. Malik Mason led the team in rebounds with 10 including 4 on the offensive side. Tealer, Jojo Carrillo, and Quavience Busby led the team with 3 assists each. Busby had a team high 4 steals in the win. The Cubs improved to 5-0 in District 3-3A with the win.

Read moreIf we were to describe this school year in one word, we would say, “new.” Brownfield Middle School is in a new location, with a new food service provider, new curriculum, new testing, new electives, new programs, and new challenges. Our students and our staff are hard at work in an attempt to improve the academic and social struggles many of our students face due to the obstacles our nation has faced since 2020. The dedication and commitment of our staff is impressive and humbling; the success we are seeing would be impossible without it.

I am the person I am today because I attended school here in Brownfield. Through academics, I found my own love of learning, which has helped push me through college at Angelo State, where I graduated from this past December. I always especially enjoyed reading/English classes, taught by great teachers like Mrs. Dorma Click, who always had a positive attitude and a smile on her face.
