The Brownfield tennis team left for the Texas Tennis Coaches Association Regional tournament the morning of Thursday, March 10. The team met at the tennis courts and received a police escort that went into front of the new high school building where teachers, administration, and students could wave to them and had signs of encouragement. The final stop before beginning the long drive to San Antonio was at Colonial Heights. The players went inside where students were lined up against both walls. They gave the tennis team a rounding applause and high fives them as they came down the hallway to the cafeteria. In the cafeteria, more students were waiting for a chance to cheer the team and continue high fiving them. After the team loaded the bus and began the drive to San Antonio and a first round matchup against Jourdanton on the first day of the tournament.

Read moreThe Brownfield tennis team competed in the qualifiers for the Texas Tennis Coaching Association Regional tournament on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 in San Antonio. Brownfield defeated Forsan 12-7 on Saturday, March 5th on its home courts to earn a spot in the tournament. The Cubs and Lady Cubs reached the tournament after defeating Denver City 17-2 but lost to Shallowater 10-9 on Friday, March 6th. Brownfield will begin the TTCA Regional tournament against Jourdanton at the Northside Tennis Courts at 11 a.m. Head Coach Rich Hammons spoke on his team’s performance in the tournament.

The Lady Cubs had 10 lifters compete and all of them finished in the top 7 in their weight classes, with eight medaling. Brownfield had three lifters earn individual results. Head Coach Jacob Perez spoke on the excitement of having five lifters compete at State on Thursday, March 17 at Corpus Christi.
