BISD Board approves Student Code of Conduct, purchase of new playground equipment

The Brownfield Board of Trustees held a special meeting on Thursday to discuss and consider the upcoming year’s student code of conduct, student handbook, extracurricular student code of conduct, athletic drug alcohol tobacco policy, employee handbook, T-TESS appraisers and calendar, and the purchase of new playground equipment. At the special meeting the board was down two members with Yvonne Rocha and Edgar Rivera absent but had enough members present to call the meeting to order.

T&T Earth Movers

T&T Earth Movers are working on adding soil over the line that goes from the City of Brownfield’s manhole on North Cub Drive to the newly made manhole passed East Ripley Street. The new manholes have passed all the tests and will be covered by dirt, allowing the barricade to be placed next to the new manhole for the new high school.

On Monday morning Commissioners Court was called to order by Judge J.D. Wagner with all members present. The court received the monthly reports for the month of July and received general information on the November 2 General Election.

Challis L’Nae Peacock

Services for Challis L’Nae Peacock, 24, of Brownfield will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Abundant Harvest Community Church with Rev. Chris Seaton officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Brownfield Funeral Home. Challis was born on April 1, 1997, in Lubbock to Billy and Anita Peacock. She graduated from Wellman-Union High school and attended college at Texas Tech. She was a member at Cowboy Church and Abundant Harvest. Challis is preceded in death by her mother, Anita Peacock; grandpa, S.M. Dill; two grandmas, Bertie Dill and Kathryn Graves. Challis is survived by her father, Billy Peacock; two sisters, Ivory Peacock and Abra Ruiz and Abra’s husband David; First aunt, Beverly Callaway and cousin, Kaitlyn Callaway.

Helen Lucille Clanahan

Services for Helen Lucille Clanahan, 74, of Granbury, will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, August 11, 2021. at Plains Cemetery with Rev. Patrick Hamilton officiating. Viewing were held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Brownfield Funeral Home. Helen was born on April 28, 1947, to Leon and Nadine Clanahan in Brownfield. She graduated from Plains High School and attended Hardin-Simmons University. She worked for the City of Abilene in Planning and Zoning. Helen enjoyed walking her dog, tending to her flower garden, and was an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboy’s fan. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Nadine Clanahan and a sister, Nancy Clanahan Thorton. Helen is survived by her two sisters, Mary Clanahan of Grandbury, and Bonnie Earnest and husband Eddie of Lubbock; two nephews, Michael Earnest and wife Kellie, and Keith Earnest and wife Stacie; niece, Jennifer Crews and husband David; seven great nieces and nephews and a great-great niece.

Howard Dean Moorhead

Howard Dean Moorhead, 76, from Wellman passed away from this life on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Graveside services were held at the Terry County Cemetery Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2 p.m. Howard was born in Brownfield, Texas on November 1, 1944 to Liston “Lick” Otis and Ruby Lee Moorhead. He attended school in Wellman and was a 1963 graduate of Wellman High School. He was a member of the Wellman First Baptist Church. He served for several years on the Wellman ISD school board. He was a farmer in Terry, Yoakum and Gaines counties. He served on the Wellman Co-op Gin Board. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Liston “Lick” Otis and Ruby Lee Moorhead, his brother Johnny Ray Moorhead, and a daughter Bridget Ann Moorhead. Howard is survived by his children; Michael and his wife Susanne Moorhead of Splendora, Leslie and his wife Tammie Moorhead of Wellman, Samantha Moorhead of Abilene, Tabatha Hodges of Willow Park, Tiffany Clark and husband Tim of Weatherford, and Russell Moorhead of Cedar Park. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Brandy Mace, Kyle Moorhead, Jessica Shouse, Stetson Hodges, Taylor Hodges, Preston Clark and Parker Clark. He is survived by a great-grandson, Lane Hodges. He is also survived by an aunt and a niece, two nephews, and numerous cousins.

Reyes Lovington Jr. beloved son,sole mate and brother went to his heavenly home on August 3,2021. He was born to Reyes Sr.and Mary Lovington on April 10,1959 in Brownfield Tx. He attended Brownfield schools. Reyes met the love of his life Wendy Michelle Ammons and they were together for 30 years. Reyes is survived by his love Wendy Michelle Ammons of Chico Tx. His father Reyes Sr. and stepmother Mini of Lamesa Tx. His brothers and sisters Norma Valenzuela, Eloisa Lovington and Roghelio Lovington all of Brownfield Tx. Raymond and Ruben Lovington of George West,Tx. Melissa Lovington of Plains,Tx. Maria Garza and David Garza of Dilly,Tx. Abel Nunez and Dehalie Nunez of Lubbock Tx, father-in-law Leon Ammons of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico,brother-in-law Jeff Ammons and spouse Annette of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews. Reyes was preceded in death by his mother Mary Nunez,his mother-in-law Nacha Ammons his grandparents Juanita and Pedro Pina,Theressa and Ralph Lovington Sr.,sister Rosalita Castaneda and nephew Juan Sonny Lazo. A memorial will be announced at a later date.
