Broncos lose by one at home

The Meadow boys’ basketball team hosted Stanton on Tuesday night looking to win its first home game of the season. The Broncos came close but lost 42-41 to the Buffaloes. It was a close game for all four quarters with the Broncos trailing 11-10 after one-quarter of play. Meadow went into the half with a 21-20 lead and held onto the one-point lead at the end of the third 32-31. But Stanton went on to win the fourth quarter 11-9, and steal the home win from the Broncos.

Lady ‘Cats fall at home

The Wellman-Union girls’ basketball team hosted Class 1A No. 4 Sands on Tuesday night looking to avoid its second straight loss. The Lady ‘Cats faced a difficult task trying to upset the No. 4 ranked team and the task became much more difficult when they trailed 27-4 at the end of the first. The Lady ‘Cats’ struggles continued in the second where they lost the quarter 20-8 and went into halftime trailing 47-12. The second half was the same as the first as Sands was too much for the Wellman and they lost the third quarter 20-1 and the fourth 16-2.

Wildcats losing streak continues

The Wellman-Union boys’ basketball team hosted Sands on Tuesday looking to avoid its fifth straight loss and earn its first win of the season. The Wildcats put up a fight but fell 79-41 to Sands. The Wildcats ended the first quarter trailing 23-12, but had a bad second half where they scored only five points to go into the break trailing 39-17. After the break, Wellman found its offense scoring 18 points but the defense allowed 24 points to the visitors. The Wildcats needed a big rally in the fourth to erase a 63-35 deficit but Sands held them to only six points.

Crime rises during the holidays

It has been a wild year, to say the least. It’s also been a crime-ridden year. With lockdowns put in place, domestic dispute calls have also risen. And at the end of May, there were many protests that quickly turned violent and deadly. However, the holiday season, beginning after Thanksgiving has historically been a time when crime becomes more prevalent according to local and state law enforcement. Simply put by Terry Co. Sheriff Tim Click, “Thefts do rise as the end of the year comes around, plus after harvest is over and not as many people are moving around in the county crime tends to spike.”

Brownfield ISD maintence team takes time to add Christmas lights and decorations to the front of the BISD Administration building. BISD Superintendent Chris Smith said, “Our guys have been working on a synchronized light show. For decades one of the oldest holiday traditions has been painting Christmas images on windows of businesses and homes. Brownfield is no stranger to this artwork as many businesses have faithfully done this year after year. Terry County COVID cases still rising, vaccine should arrive soon

On Friday, December 4 Terry County saw its highest daily confirmed COVID-19 cases with 48 and bumped the total confirmed cases to over 1,000. Coronavirus cases continue to increase in Terry County, and there seems to be no sign of when it will go down.
