The Brownfield city council met Thursday morning for their regularly scheduled meeting to discuss a multitude of matters. Council members Kelli Mendez, Celso Duran, JC Tijerna, Leon Pope, Marshall Martell, Mark Williams and Jimmy Garza were all present on the quorum along with City Manager Jeff Davis, Secretary Kelly Burris, Attorney Matt Wade and Mayor Tom Hesse. Following an invocation from pastor Steve Carter, the council honored Alex Llamas as Brownfield’s employee of the month for the month of May. The council then heard and considered the quarterly report for water and wastewater in Brownfield, presented by director of wastewater James Nix. Nix said that there were only six major line leaks this quarter along with 100 work orders and almost 150 radio callouts. “The booster 5 CRMWA line had an overflow event,” Nix said. “This is not something that is controlled by the city of Brownfield, CRMWA itself has a limiting valve at that station and the limiting valve failed and went full wide open and flooded the park.” Nix also said that they have uncovered the blowoffs and the control valves to the south wells field along with cleaning them and testing their electricity. The report was motioned for approval by Kelli Mendez and seconded by JC Tijerna.

Zach was born in Odessa, TX and grew up in Brownfield and Meadow, TX. He began school in Brownfield, but later moved to Meadow Schools, graduating from Meadow High School in 2008. In high school Zach participated in football, basketball, track, and golf as well as UIL One Act Plays. After high school he attended Texas Tech, later transferring to Lubbock Christian University graduating in 2012. Zach’s work career began in Terry County as a farmhand, then while in college, to banking in Lubbock, and in more recent years in the commercial roofing business in DFW.

James Earl Wooley, born on December 6, 1951 in Brownfield, Texas, passed away on May 31, 2023. He was the son of J.C. Wooley and Dora Mae Wooley.
