Read moreFuneral services for Beatrice Marie Garza, 63, of Lubbock was held at 10 am Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Brownfield Funeral Home with Mario Hernandez officiating. There was a public viewing on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home from 11 am to 8 pm and a Prayer Service was held at 6 pm. Beatrice went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in Lubbock. She was born on September 17, 1958, in Lubbock. Beatrice worked as a CNA for over 40 years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who was a very precious gem to her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor that was loved by those that loved her. Beatrice is preceded in death by her parents, Rita and Savas Garza Sr., a brother, Savas Garza Jr., sister, Lucy Gil, and grandchild, Michael Bean. Beatrice is survived by five children, Joseph Anthony Garza, Enrique Savas Garza III and wife Mayra, Monica G. Garza, Daniel Santana Garza and Crystal Garza; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven sisters; and many fur-grandbabies.

Anita married Eddie Austin on October 28, 1970 in Lubbock. She was a resilient lady whose strong work ethic and ambitious nature enabled her to rise to the director position in the accounts receivable office at Texas Tech where she worked for over 20 years. Anita was a loving mother and grandmother for whom spending time with her children and grandchildren was a labor of love. She enjoyed rock and roll music and going to the casinos. Anita cared deeply for others and had a great sense of humor that she willingly shared with those who knew her. Those left to cherish Anita’s memory are her husband, Eddie Austin of Brownfield; children, Celena (Michael) Latham of Colleyville, Texas, Fonda Austin and Evan Austin of Brownfield; sister, Tanya Morgan of Atoka, Oklahoma; brothers, Glen (Nikki) Morgan of Lubbock, David (Rebecca) Morgan and Dale (Diana) Morgan both of Paris, Texas and 3 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother and a sister, Misty Morgan. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel from 1-6pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel at 10am.
Read moreThe Brownfield Cubs football team did not have the start they wanted as they couldn’t hold on to an onside kickoff from Kermit to start the game. But the Cubs defense was able to hold Kermit and force turnovers on down. With their first drive, the Cubs quarterback Zarius Garcia ran on the outside of the Kermit defense for a 78-yard rushing TD to give the Cubs their second lead in the season, the first being in the Big Spring game which was called off due to lightning. That was the beginning of what became the Cubs first district, home, and overall win in the season as they gave their fans a 41-25 win. It was also a big step in fighting for a playoff spot.
Read moreThe Meadow Broncos are now 1-1 in District play after suffering a 61-16 home game loss to the Borden County Coyotes. The Broncos, despite having the early lead in the first quarter, were unable to hold off the Coyotes for the win. The Broncos will look to have a bye week next week, as they use the time to prepare for the Whiteface Antelopes in Whiteface the following week.
