Read moreThe Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs were not able to come home with a victory Monday night as they fell to the Dimmitt Bobcats 53-43. Basketball is always said to be a game of runs and on Monday in the first quarter it was exactly that as Dimmitt started on a 4-0 run, followed by a Brownfield 8-0 run, which was then answered by a 4-0 run to end the first tied at 8. Early in the second quarter it was Jeron Lawrence finding his groove from deep as he had 2 threes for the Runnin’ Cubs, but Dimmitt had an answer each time down the floor. During the second frame Dimmitt would go on a run that saw them knock down some timely threes. Brownfield had opportunities to get some points on the board and respond but were just not able to knockdown the open looks when they had them. Going into the locker room Brownfield trailed 25-19. Coming out of the break, Brownfield was looking for a spark on offense and they go it in this quarter netting 10 points in the first four minutes of the third quarter but were not getting the stops they needed to chip away at the lead. Both schools would exchange buckets till the end of the 3 rd when Brownfield was finally able to string some stops together but now the offense stalled and good looks were hard to come by. The third quarter would come and go, and the 6 point deficit Brownfield faced coming out of the locker room was now 4 as they still trailed 36-32. The fourth quarter was one that was dominated by one side, Dimmitt made the adjustments needed to end the third frame and came out and capitalized off the defensive momentum in the final quarter as the Bobcats held the Runnin’ Cubs to two points for the first six minutes of the final frame and that was exactly what Dimmitt needed to close out the win and protect home court defeating Brownfield 53-43.
