Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation heard presentations from three local businesses during its regular meeting on Monday. JAE’s Froyo, Crackin’ Crab and EJM Construction each spoke to the board to request assistance in order to meet growth goals. After meeting in closed session, BIDCorp Executive Director Gina Kelly made a motion to have JAE’s Froyo apply for a grant, which the board passed. The board approved up to $33,250 to be paid to the vendor once the work is completed for the Crakin’ Crab’s parking lot. A motion was also made and approved to pay the vendor up to $65,000 for the concrete work for a building expansion for EJM Construction. The board gave its approval for Kelly to sell property to interested investors.

During its regular meeting on Monday, Brownfield Independent School District board members congratulated Superintendent Chris Smith, who was named Region 17 Superintendent of the Year. “On behalf of the board and the staff and the students and community of Brownfield, we appreciate what you do, and we are proud of you,” said BISD Board President as the board presented Smith with a plaque.
