City Council Ends COVID-19 Mayoral Order

The City Council declared with sweeping agreement that the Declaration of Local Disaster-Mayoral Order that was put in place because of the Covid-19 pandemic should be canceled. The Order allowed the city to take the measures that it deemed necessary in order to stop the spread of Covid-19. “Freedom!” said councilman Eric Horton.

The Lady Cubs Meriah Gonzalez is our player of the week. Bringing her team 33 points Friday, April 1 at the Cub Relays. Gonzalez got 2nd in the 200 M Dash with a 27.18. She also ran the 3rd leg in the 4x200 M Relay and the team took 1st with a 1:52.94. Gonzalez ran the 2nd leg on the 4x400 M Relay. The Lady Cubs took 2nd with a 4:29.61. In her field events she placed 2nd in Long Jump with a 16’- 7”. Gonzalez received 1st place in Triple jump with a 33’-11 1/4. The Lady Cubs did take second overall at the meet with 117 points

Jimmy Wesley Woodard

Jimmy Wesley Woodard was born on April 12, 1947, to Tommie and Julia Woodard of Wellman, Texas. Jimmy was raised on a farm a few miles west of Wellman where he had his own sow operation in between school and working on the farm. Jimmy was not only everyone’s friend and named “Mr. WHS”, he was active in FFA, football, basketball and track, and graduated from Wellman High School in 1965. However, his most important achievement while in high school was meeting his high school sweetheart, the love of his life and future wife of 1 week shy of 54 years, Judy Yowell from Brownfield.

Services for Joe Trevino Villarreal, Sr., 78, of Brownfield was held at 10 am on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Abundant Harvest Community Church with Pastor Rudy Alvarado officiating. Prayer service were held from 6:30- 8 pm on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel. Joe was born on April 27, 1943, in Odem, Texas, to Jesus and Maria Villarreal. He was passionate about farming and tending to his horses.
