Dolores “Dorey” Mae Gaither, 87, of Clyde died Saturday, January 8, 2022, at an Abilene care center. Funeral services will be Friday, January 14, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel, 650 E. Ambler Ave. in Abilene with Jason Howard officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home. Dorey was born July 31, 1934, in Independence, Kansas to Luther L. and Alice Shepherd. She married James Kenneth Gaither July 19, 1952, in Montebello, California. Dorey was a homemaker and a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ. Before coming to Abilene, she was a member of Brownfield Church of Christ, where she taught children’s bible classes on Sunday and Wednesday nights, the children’s bible class for ladies bible class on Wednesday morning. She also taught bible class at their Thursday school program. She taught her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her flannel graphs and characters. Dorey loved to sit on the porch or in the backyard where she would watch birds, squirrels, and butterflies. She loved to cook her favorite traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner – turkey, dressing, and apple and cherry pies. She always wore the biggest smile and had a positive attitude. Dorey is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Alice and in-laws, Kervy and Lilly Gaither, her husband, James Gaither, two sons, David and Kenneth Allan Gaither, son-in-law, Johnnie Howard, and grandson, Wade Howard. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Howard of Clyde and Dorey Brown of Lubbock, grandchildren, Heather Mc- Clure and husband, Scott of Abilene and Jason Howard and wife, Allison of Keller, and great-grandchildren, Megan McClure of Wichita Falls, Bethany McClure of Abilene, Jessie Howard of Nocona, Harper Howard, Bailey Howard, and Ellis Howard, all of Keller. Visitation was held 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Brownfield Funeral Home. Dorothy passed away to glory on January 10, 2022 surrounded by her family in her home. Dorothy was born February 21, 1921 in Quitman, TX to Henry Houston Corbitt and Rose Della Bailey Corbitt. She was raised in Loyola, TX and graduated from Klondike High School. She married Fred Eugene Terry July 22, 1939 in Big Springs, TX. In their 64 years of marriage Fred and Dorothy owned and operated a Gas Station in Hot Springs, owned and operated the laundry in Meadow and farmed in this area and Dalhart for many years. They retired from farming in Dalhart in 1973 and moved back to Brownfield 1993. During those retired years they enjoyed traveling and spent a lot of time being snowbirds. Dorothy had many hobbies including; sewing, gardening, playing bridge and floral arrangement. One of her favorite things were hummingbirds and camping, but most of all she loved her family and friends. She was a member of the Brownfield United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Royce Terry and his wife Bobbie Beasley of Meadow, TX; Loy Terry of Waxahachie. She was Memaw to six grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and they all loved her dearly. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents, three sisters, two brothers, daughter in law, Susan Terry of Waxachie and a great granddaughter Christen Bryce Terry of Wolfforth.

The Lady Cubs improve to 6-0 in District 3-3A and continue in first place and in position to win back-to-back District 3-3A titles. The Lady Cubs had four players finish in double digit scoring with Ashley Ramirez and Deja Johnson both scoring 16 points a piece and Shy’la Blackwell and Gabi Fields both scoring 12 points each. Tia Johnson led the team in rebounds with 11 with 8 on the defensive boards and assists with 5. Fields led the team in steals with 8. As a team the Lady Cubs outrebounded Lamesa 36-21 overall, 33-27 on the defensive end, and 13-10 on the offensive end. They had 18 steals and 20 assists, and forced Lamesa into 13 turnovers.

Both teams played a very close game throughout but the final three minutes saw both teams tied at 58-58 and go back and forth, until the home team was able to pull off a win with a defensive stop at the buzzer. Jojo Carrillo led the team in scoring with 17 points and assists with 3. Malik Mason added 12 points and 13 rebounds with 6 on the offensive end. Quavience Busby led the team with 5 steals. As a team the Cubs out rebounded Lamesa 37-35 and 15-10 on the offensive end. The Cubs had three blocks as a team to 0 by Lamesa. The Golden Tornadoes won the steals battle 15-9 and assists 15-9.

The Wildcats played on the road and were able to ride a strong defensive pressure to hold off the home team and secure a road win. Levi DePoyster led the Wildcats with 11 points and Julius Alaniz added 10 points in the win. Wellman held Petersburg to five points in the first quarter and seven in the second and third quarterz. The Wildcats offense scored 12 in the first, 14 in the second, and 12 in the third to secure a road win.

Sadie Crowley led the Lady ‘Cats with 7 points and Kenzie Harp added 6 points in the loss. The Lady ‘Cats struggled offensively in the first half scoring only 6 points by halftime. They were able to get a rhythm in the third quarter scoring 13 points but any chance of a comeback was stopped when Whiteface held Wellman to 1 point in the fourth quarter.
