Semi-truck overturns, driver sent to hospital

At approximately 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Brownfield Fire & Rescue was called to respond to an overturned semi-truck. The accident happened about two miles south of Brownfield on US 62/385. According to TX DPS the driver of the truck, Enrique Aguilar (61) of El Paso, was driving southbound with an empty dump trailer and began to hydroplane from the recent rain, which caused the trailer to jackknife and forced the semi to the median where it would then overturn on the driver side and slide into the northbound lanes completely blocking highway.

Construction Continues At New BHS

Sandia Construction is shown pouring concrete for the new Brownfield high school gymnasium on Wednesday. Construction on the gymnasium began at the end of January and is expected to be completed by July, 2021.

High School Sports Are Back

On Tuesday morning the University Interscholastic League (UIL) came out with their 2020- 2021 UIL Sports and Academic calendar. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, UIL has not really said much in the way of if or when public schools would get to compete in sports and academics. The last time most schools saw a field or a court was in mid- March since UIL had decided to postpone all sanctioned events in the hopes of being able to come back and play, however the coronavirus had the last word on that.
