Brownfield High power lifting athletes are getting stronger in the offseason one rep at a time. Thats because of one man trying to better his community. Jesse Zambrano a graduate from Wellman-Union ISD has become quite the accomplished powerlifter. Zambrano holds the state bench press record in the 148 lb weight class at 363 pounds. Zambrano is also ranked 4th in the world in his weight class with this bench press record. The goal Zambrano has set is to hit the national record of 380 lb in bench press.
Read moreThe Brownfield football 7 on 7 team ended the summer season with a strong showing at the Clyde SQT (State Qualifying Tournament). One of the team’s most notable wins came in the third game of the Clyde SQT when the Cubs beat the defending 4A state champions Stephenville, 35-31. With a showing like this with the team going an overall 16-4 and only losing in the SQT’s there is a lot of hype moving around the Brownfield Football program.
Read moreThis Baseball game against Smyer was a little different from the one from the day before against the same team. Most of the older varsity stars were not there for the final game of the summer and it showed to a point. One of the strong points of the day was pitching. Although Coach Morin decided to try a new pitcher every inning all of the pitchers performed very well. This was the last game of the summer season and The Cubs ended the summer season with a 6-6 tie.
Read moreThe Cubs bats were quick to connect with the ball against Seagraves on Friday, June 18. The Cubs came out in the first inning and got 5 runners on base and 3 of them scored. One thing to take note of with this summer team is the fact that at any given time there aren’t any seniors on this team. Most of the roster is incoming freshmen and some are even younger than that. With the team being so young they are naturally playing teams that are older than them when they play on the varsity level. Being young hasn’t stopped the Cubs summer team, The Cubs continued to put up runs on Seagraves.
Read moreThe Cubs capped off a baseball season with multiple surprises and with 5 all district players. The Brownfield Cubs baseball team led by head coach Eric Morin surprised more people than expected. Although the Cubs had a slow start to the season and troubles with pitching at the beginning of the year. The season did not end with the same troubles it started with because the pitching improved, batting improved and outfield play improved. The team finished second in the district with a record of 12-18 and a district record of 4-2. With this in mind the team was relatively young and only had 2 seniors on it. The junior-heavy Cubs would go on to best Alpine 2 out of 3 game series and would advance to the second round. In the second round the Cubs faced Shallowater where the team for the first four innings of each game made things interesting. The Cubs would fall to shallower and end their season in the second round. Looking forward, the Cubs are now more experienced with lots of talent on the horizon. The Cubs graduated only 2 seniors last year one of them being Zarius Garcia. Garcia who was All District 1st Team 2nd Basemen is the team’s only all district player who will not return next year. 4 out of 5 all district players will return to the diamond for coach Morin. Coach Morin will also be fully loaded with 11 seniors to kick off next baseball season.

The teams all around success this season was no secret, the fully stacked team all around the diamond gave the Lady Cubs a leg up on most opponents. The Lady Cubs would breeze past Kermit and eliminated them, outscoring Kermit 24-1. With only 3 graduating seniors in 2022 the Lady Cubs softball team looks to bounce back with full force After getting knocked off by Idalou in the second round of the playoffs 2 years in a row. New head Softball coach Brea Guerrero coming from New Home High school has a plethora of talented all district players returning on the roster. One of the key returns Guerrero has in her arsenal is co-district MVP pitcher Brianne Franco. There are 11 total all district players taken from The Lady Cub roster, 8 of them will be returning for Guerrero.

Read moreThe Brownfield Summer Track Camp hosted a track meet with multiple schools and programs attending the event. Kids as young as three and as old as 18 attended the event on Tuesday, June 14. Some of the schools that included were Midland Greenwood, Borden County and Wellman-Union. In total about 180 kids competed in the track meet. Ribbons were given out for each heat of every race and were given to places 1st-5th.
