With high school football and volleyball in full swing there are some major changes in effect for attending games and events in person due to COVID-19. The University Interscholastic League (UIL) sent out a guidance for all UIL sanctioned competitions. The UIL is obligated to follow the Texas education Agency’s(TEA) mitigation guidance. TEA has issued instruction that requires all school systems to develop a plan for mitigating COVID-19 spread in schools. With that, the UIL has guidelines requiring schools to include UIL activities for the 2020-2021 school year as part of each school’s plan and carefully plan for mitigating risk of spread as students and staff participate in the UIL activities. Schools must post these plans on the homepage of the school website or other easily accessible area of the school website. However, according to UIL, these plans do not require UIL or TEA approval.

This is the third consecutive month that the unemployment rate has decreased, and the lowest rate since March 2020 when the Texas economy was initially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the oil and gas industry downfall. Funeral services for Jimmie Lee Anderson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Dale Matlock officiating. Burial will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Jimmie Lee Anderson 77, of Brownfield, passed away Monday August 24, 2020. Jimmie was born September 14, 1942 in Amarillo, TX to Millard and Leona (Greer) Anderson. After graduating high school, he joined the National Guard. After that Jimmie started his career in the oil field where he worked for Marshall R. Young for 32 years before retiring. Jimmie loved fishing and time with his family. One of our most memorable things about Jimmie is, when you walked into a room he would spot you out, make eye contact and give you a big smile. Jimmie is preceded in death by his wife Kathy Powell Anderson of Brownfield, TX, and his brother Olan Dale Anderson of Blackwell, OK. He is survived by his three sons. Dwayne Anderson of Levelland, Ronald Anderson of Brownfield, Shawn Anderson and his wife Heather Anderson of Levelland. Three grandchildren, Terra Anderson of Levelland, Kerra Anderson of Brownfield and Austin Anderson of Wolfforth. Three step grandchildren, Tuff, Trinity and Teegan Walters of Levelland, and five great grandchildren.

John L. Haynes, 91, of Lubbock passed away on August 26, 2020 in Lubbock. He was born on March 12, 1929 in Westminster, TX to William and Bertha Haynes. John served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, during that time he served in the Korean Conflict. John married Doris Pyle in Kemp, TX on December 20, 1951. John was a member of the First Baptist Church in Meadow. He enjoyed farming and participating in the farmers market. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Bertha Haynes; brother, William Haynes; three sisters, Audra Womble, Mattie Miller, and Wilma Van Deren. John is survived by his wife, Doris Haynes; son, Lonnie Haynes and wife Andrea; daughter, Jenise Wooten and husband Johnny; five grandchildren, Jonathan Haynes and wife Maribeth, Kristine Rodriguez and husband Van, Matthew Haynes and wife Debra, Samuel Haynes, Holley Baker; four great grandchildren, Gus Rodriguez, Camden Rodriguez, Elly Rodriguez, Emma Haynes.

Bonnie Lee Moore – Funeral services for Bonnie Lee Moore, 89, of Seagraves, Texas were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday 29 at First Baptist Church, Seagraves, Texas. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Reynolds. Interment in Terry County Memorial Cemetery, Brownfield, Texas. Services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seagraves, Texas. She was born May 26, 1931 to the late Frank Dyemartin and Chloe Newcomb Dyemartin at Ft. Griffin, Texas. She died August 26, 2020 in Seagraves, Texas. She married Melvin D Moore July 20, 1951 in Brownfield, Texas. She was a homemaker, a former member of the First Baptist Church of Brownfield and Ruidoso and currently Seagraves. She was a member of The Rebecca Lodge and was a past Noble Grand #56 of Brownfield. She loved her church family and loved singing in the choir. Her voice was like an angel when she sang her old gospel songs. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, October 20, 1990 and two children; Delynda Roe and Garry Don Moore, also two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by a son Dennis Moore of Slaton and daughter Janet Foshee of Seagraves. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and 3 great- great- grandchildren also, numerous nieces and nephews. George passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in Lubbock. He was born on February 3, 1965 in Lamesa. His parents were Juan and Clara Ramirez. He served in the United States Marine Corps. George married Irma Lira on May 1, 1986 in Brownfield. George loved his family and enjoyed woodworking. He is preceded in death by his father, Juan Ramirez; brother, Virgil Lee Lawrence; aunt, Maria Munoz; and birth mother, Eloisa Ramirez. George is survivied by his wife Irma Ramirez; mother, Clara Ramirez; three sons, Samuel Ramirez, Juan Thomas Ramirez, Daniel Ramirez; five grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Lynn Walker, Loujuana Kidd; three brothers, Elvin Ray Lawrence, William Ramirez, and Juan V. Ramirez.

Maria Elena was born to Jesus and Francisca Cantu in Meadow, Texas on December 17, 1947.She was known by Mary to some and Elena to most. Mary met Raymond Gonzales and married in May 17, 1974 they resided in Brownfield all of their lives along with their 5 children. No words can describe Mary best like the word “selfless”. She was one of the most giving persons that anyone had the privilege to ever meet. If she heard of a person in need she would do everything possible to help them. One of her greatest passions was cooking. Putting her selflessness and her cooking skills together she cooked up some amazing things up for this community. She held many fundraisers to help others from little league teams buy uniforms to those needing help with medical expenses. She catered many weddings, quincentenaries’ and a lot of meals that had lost their loved ones. Mary loved to help her church of St. Anthony’s she made sure that she had a booth for the Jamaica every year she helped with the Bereavementcommittee and many other church functions. Mary’s other great passion was The Cub Drive In. She started working at the age of 13 and worked for many years as an employee and then came back after a short break as the “Boss”.Mary loved her kids and grandkids and great grandkids unconditionally. She showed her family the true meaning of a strong hard-working woman. She fought through many storms with strength that only comes from God, until last week when she said she was tired and was ready when the Good Lord was ready for her. Saying that she will be greatly missed is an understatement. Mary is survived by her five children Pete Garza and Angie of Brownfield. Cynthia Tealer of Brownfield, Teresa and husband Valde Flores of Lubbock, Mark Gonzales and wife Gloria of Lubbock and Jona and husband Clay Rolan of Canyon. 11 grandkids Eric Garza, Tara Garza, Rocky Garza, Linda Chavez, Latisha Tealer, Kasandra Tealer, Leslie Flores, Abrian and Zarin Gonzales, Madi and Brody Rolan. 21 great grandkids and 4 great grandchildren. 4 sisters Anita Romero, Vera Jimenez, Delia Barnhart, Dora Cantu and brother Robert Cantu. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Gonzales and her parents Jesus and Francisca Cantu, two brothers Jose Tijerina and Lupe Tijerina and one great great grandson.
