The Comeback Cubs strike again! The Cubs took AN early 5-3 advantage over Lamesa going into the 2nd inning. Shortly thereafter the game started to slip away from The Cubs. GOING into the 6th inning The Cubs were down 11-5. In the 6th inning they scored 3 runs to bring the game to 11-8. Going into the 7th inning the Cubs defense held strong and got help form close out pitcher Ivan Deleon. In the bottom of the 7th inning with the Cubs at bat for the final time the score was 11-8. The bases were loaded with no outs when Adriano Mireles stole home making the score 11-9 WITH two runners on base. Brandon Anthony brought in an RBI to make it 11-10, the next batter Juan Najara was hit with the ball and walked. The score is 11-10 with 1 out, JJ Martinez brings in an RBI to make the score 11-11. Ivan Deleon came to the plate and crushed a single to right field to win the game in the bottom of the 7th 12-11 and have yet another comeback win at home.

The Lady Cubs once again started slowly on their senior night but found a way to get things rolling. The Lady Cubs were down 0-2 going into the third inning. Out of no where the bats started flying, Brianne Franco had a home run in the third inning to cap the inning off. Ashley Ramirez also had a home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to put a nice finishing touch on her senior night. The Lady Cubs beat Lamesa 7-2.

The Cubs started off on fire Friday, April 15th and never looked back. The Cubs team took an early 4-0 advantage against Muleshoe in the first inning. From here on out the Cubs decided that Muleshoe wasn’t going to have a pleasant, “Good Friday”. The Cubs dominated behind great batting and even better pitching from Juan Najara. After jumping out to an excellent start The Cubs would go on to win 14-3.

The Lady Cubs came out of the gate with little intensity, only scoring 2 runs in the first 4 innings. Brianna Franco hit a home run to put the Lady Cubs up 4-0, and bring life to the Lady Cubs team in the bottom of the 5th inning. The next inning Muleshoe came roaring back and pushed the score to 4-3, putting the pressure on the Lady Cubs to make something happen at the batter’s box. The Lady Cubs did just that and scored 5 unanswered runs in the next 2 innings to secure the win, 9-3.

The Wellman Track team competed in the area meet on Thursday, April 14th in Garden City. The boys and girls teams both struggled to advance, only the top two were taken from the area meet to advance to regionals. The Wellman Girls team did have one Student Athlete advance to regionals. 400 M Dash: 2nd-McKenzie Harp-1:06.04 Regionals will be held at South Plains College on Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th.
